Stephen King's Excavation Theory

Stephen believes that stories are "like fossils in the ground", which I happen to believe in. What Stephen means by this is that stories are found upon by the author, instead of being planned of. This means stories just come to people like any natural idea or thought. Which makes, just as Stephen said, "writing as excavation". Stories are just ideas anybody can find or think of, it just takes a good amount of imagination, not any logical thought or deep planning. Everybody can come up with a good story, it just depends on who it is. After all, no writing is original, so no story is fully entitled to someone.

Walkers Discoveries Of Zora and Herself

Walker, the narrator of the story, is a fan of Zora Neale Hurston. She knows a lot about her and decides to visit Eatonville; the town Zora grew up in. She meets locals who new about Zora personally. This causes Walker to find out more about Zora then she previously did, such as how she died, which at first she had not known, then she was told she was told Zora died of malnutrition, which causes Walker to become upset. Especially since she was a famous writer, who becomes hungry despite of her life accomplishments and work. She is then told Zora died of a stroke, which made more sense to Walker, since dying out of old age is natural. Walker also finds out Zora began to become bigger as she grew older, which shocks Zora since she has only seen Zora skinny in pictures. She also interprets that Zora didn't get along with her family and a lot of the public for the reason her opinions and views on certain subjects. She also found out for this reason she was forgotten and not even known by the community much. I believe this reveals to Walker that her culture of her race is not as full of pride or as great as she thought since not much African Americans even now about one of their most famous writers. This affects her as an individual for it shows her most favorite author of whom she saw and an idol and as someone she thought her self as, and to know she was not as great and known as she thought to be, which shocks her as well to letting her down.

Janie's Troubles

Janie is sad for the reason she hasn't found out how to love in her life yet. She has tried to find love through marriage with Logan Killicks, which had feld her for the reason she feld dominated. She then tries to find it throught the marriage of another man, a younger man; Joe Starks. She hopes she can love him since she is convinced that he will treat her as a respectable women, and not dominate her as her previous husband did. This is all shown to fail for when Joe becomes mayor of Eatonville, which allows him to experience power and domination a whole lot more then she dislikes.

An Answered Year For Janie

Janie began telling her life story in the beginning of the book. This brings up the many questions she had while growing up. One of them concerning love, and the other one is what does life going to bring her. So far, Janie has had her first kiss, marriage, and affair. She has gone away with Joe Starks, and has dived into a new adventure in her life  that she hopes answers her questions of life and love.

I believe the following year will answer questions for Janie. She has started a new chapter in her life for the sole purpose of figuring out what life holds for her, and I think it will pay off. I think she will find out what it means to love, and what her role is in life. I also believe it will bring new questions. I believe this because this is only the beginning of her story. She still has 20 years left to tell. So to have everything answered and solved before most of her story is finished wouldn't make sense.

Marriage and Love

A common belief is the idea that marriage always has to do something with love. I personally believe this to be true. The way I look at it is people marry each other for one reason or another. The most common reason is, obviously, the love the couple has for one another. This isn't the reason for everyone though, but it doesn't mean love isn't involved in the marriage.

Another reason can be for the love of money. Such as when a woman marry's a man for his money, despite the fact she doesn't even love him, and vice versa sometimes as well. The love is there, but it just isn't in the right place. Despite that this is terrible, it happens.

There are also situations where a couple doesn't love each other, but they get married for reasons which don't deal with financial matters either. There are people who practice cultures where the parents pick the the bride or groom for their child to marry. I'm not saying that just because the marriage happens this way the couple doesn't love each other, but there are many situations where there is no love the couple has with, each other. Love has to do with this because even if the child doesn't love their significant other, they still have the love for their parents which is what helps them go on with the parents. The love exists in the child's relationship with their parents.

Another great reason is the love a parent has for their child. There are many situations where two people have a child before they get married, and end up marrying one another the sake of the child have the quality childhood they deserve. Now as I had sort of mentioned this earlier, this doesn't have apply to all premaritil parents but this is reason why a lot of them do get married.
