Stephen King's Excavation Theory

Stephen believes that stories are "like fossils in the ground", which I happen to believe in. What Stephen means by this is that stories are found upon by the author, instead of being planned of. This means stories just come to people like any natural idea or thought. Which makes, just as Stephen said, "writing as excavation". Stories are just ideas anybody can find or think of, it just takes a good amount of imagination, not any logical thought or deep planning. Everybody can come up with a good story, it just depends on who it is. After all, no writing is original, so no story is fully entitled to someone.

  1. I do agree with this. Having a forced idea is not as good as having an idea that comes out due to pure imagination.
